Wedding Videographer Filmed Beas Tragedy

MANDI: A videographer who was filming a joyous wedding at Shalanala village in Himachal Pradesh captured the grisly scene of the 24 students from Hyderabad and their tour guide being swept away by the gushing waters in the Beas on Sunday evening.

Videograher Bihari Lal says he was standing at a height of about 300 metres with the marriage party when he noticed the Beas swelling at a distance. "We could see that trouble was gushing towards the tourists," he says. "We shouted, whistled and clapped frantically to catch their attention, but most of them ignored us. Maybe, they thought we were just celebrating."

In the beginning of the 4.30-minute clip a man shouts that the tourists are going to die. While two large groups of students were standing on big rocks in the middle of the river, others were on smaller rocks. When the water level increased some of the students rushed towards the bank and survived. A few more standing on the smaller rocks could have escaped had they acted swiftly and jumped to the river bank.
