JANASENA Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 Union Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan writes to CMs of 11 states asking to identify 2-3 locations to set up AIIMS.-----------------------------------------The Union Health Ministry has written a letter to eleven states to find land to build All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institutes and asked them to get back to the ministry within a month. The states to which letters have been written are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Punjab and Haryana. The ministry has asked states to identify an area of over 2500 acres, which the states have to give the ministry for free to build AIIMS. After the states have reverted back to the Centre, teams will be sent to inspect the area, if it has proper electricity and water supply. The last healthcare policy dates back to 2002. India now needs a comprehensive healthcare policy to address the complex healthcare challenges, keeping in view the developments in the healthcare sector and the changing demographics. BJP will initiate the New Health Policy. Initiate the 'National Health Assurance Mission', with a clear mandate to provide universal healthcare that is not only accessible and affordable, but also effective, and reduces the OOP spending for the common man. Modernize Government hospitals, upgrading infrastructure and latest technologies. Increase the number of medical and para-medical colleges to make India self sufficient in human resources, and set up an AIIMS like institute in every state.
