solman Posted June 24, 2014 Author Report Posted June 24, 2014 Apart from cancelling all the PPAs that are in operation, the AP government on Monday instructed the Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Plant too not to share the power it generates with Telangana. The plant, commissioned a few days ago, has a capacity of 1,600 MW. Currently it is producing about 800 MW per day. "There is severe power shortage in Andhra Pradesh due to the delay of the south west monsoon. We have to ensure minimum power supply in the state to save crops. We are taking all necessary steps in that direction," AP Genco CMD, K Vijayanand, told TOI.Sources said all the decisions of APGenco and the discoms were taken with the concurrence of AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. "We had no choice as all the 13 Seemandhra districts are experiencing heat wave conditions and seeing unprecedented power demand," said a senior official. On Monday, AP had a shortfall of 7.97 million units (MU) while Telangana experienced a shortfall of 4.07 MU.
