Quiet and Authentic Greek Vacation on the Syros Island, Greece

Syros-Photo-by-Dimitris-Koutsoulaftis-98

Syros, Greece. One of the Cyclades’ islands in the Aegean Sea, Syros is less known than Santorini – the better for those craving for a quiet destination. Less tourists ensure more authentic Greek holiday, but there is still plenty to do and see. The visitors experience Greek hospitality, which dissipates in the busier islands likeSantorini or Mykonos.

Syros has a very old history, reaching back to Antiquity, and is even mentioned in the Odyssey. There are a lot of historic buildings and churches, that can be explored by wandering in a web of narrow streets. Sandy beaches and clear warm water offer a pleasant relaxation. And in the capital Ermoupoli and its neighborhood you can find fresh food and tasty local specialties.

Why to go there?

Fine Greek island, less crowded than Santorini or Mykonos.

When to go there?

The climate is mild all year round. The weather is beach friendly from May to October.

How to get there?

By boat or ferry from other islands. By plane from Athens

Saxon Switzerland – Tall Rock Towers and Extreme Climbing Traditions, Germany

Saxon Switzerland, Dresden, Saxony, Germany. A beautiful climbing area and a national park are situated in the valley, along the Elbe river. Approximately 1000 peaks attract hikers and offer stunning views. The Bastei is especially appealing – it features a bridge, built between the rock towers, and viewpoints on top of them.

The area is a popular climbing attraction for at least 200 years. Free climbing originated from here and developed an extreme tradition of a Baustelle – a technique when others’ shoulders are used to climb over the difficult sections. However, nonprofessional hikers will also have plenty to do and see in this picturesque park.

Why to go there?

Various tracks, climbing opportunities, great views.

When to go there?

All year round.

How to get there?

By train from Dresden.
