Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated in India fascinates with its beauty and traditional Buddhist architecture. The impressive complex has 12 stories and is built at an altitude of 3,600 m (11,800 ft). Built in 15th century, the monastery also houses a nunnery. Thikse Gompa is also known for its resemblance to the Potala Palace, which is the most important building in Lhasa, Tibet. The tourists get to visit the monastery, the Maitreya temple and meet with the monks. Why to go there? A spiritual retreat surrounded with amazing nature, owning a historical and architectural value. When to go there? Anytime. The annual festival and a fair are being held from 17th October to 19th November. How to get there? The castle is situated on a cliff in the beautiful Swabian Alps. The first castle here was built in the 13th century. The present palace is a 19th century compound of a hunting lodge of King Frederick I of Württemberg and his nephew’s castle. The latter was inspired by eponymous Wilhelm Hauff’s novel “Lichtenstein”. On the guided tours visitors can explore palatial rooms, filled with Medieval paintings, armoury, murals and stained glass. The castle is fully furnished, featuring original Medieval furniture. Needless to say, amazing panoramic views to the Swabian mountains open from the castle. Moreover, the Lichtenstein Castle Ropes Course, established next to the palace, provides an active climbing adventure. Why to go there? Historic architecture, beautiful sites, various activities. The chapel in the castle is available for the weddings and baptisms. When to go there? All year round except December and January when the castle is closed. How to get there? By train to Reutlingen Hbf. from Stuttgart. Then take a bus to Honau. From here you can reach the castle in 20 min.
