Bonala Festival.. The Official Celebration From Now

Bonala festival or Bonalu festival comes every year in Ashadam and the celebrations lasts for 1month. This festival celebrations were in hyderabad since over 400 years. This festival has unique specialites to unite different cultures, rich historical and collections of all religions will participate in the festival celebrations.

This festival celebrations starts from the first Sunday or Thursday in the month of ashadam as per Telugu calendar and lasts for one month.Following the official ceremony announcing the event is bound to maintain as the state administration. Today first bonalu is going to start from Golconda fort, till 27th they are going to perform 9 varieties of worship to goddess at Golconda fort till 27^th of next month. In the same time at Old-city, Laldarwaja, secunderabad ujjaini mahankali celebrations will begin, So from today city – wide celebrations are started.

At the period of Kuthubhshahi’s rule Golconda was the capital of Hyderabad, Bonala festival emerged from them. Akkanna and  Madanna were served as the ministers in the kingdom of Abdul Hasan Tanisha, with their advice Tanisha has ordered to build temple for Sri Lord Jagadambika , and Lord Mahankali and the celebrations were began since then. Later on Asafh jahi has took control the rule in Hyderabad and they continued the same customs with the festival and this festival has became customary. The goddess on the fort was decorated by the priest in Chotabazar and with huge procession and again the goddess placed in the fort temple itself.

In September 1908, the Musee river affected the people with full of floods and thousands of people were already dead in that flood. At that time Raja kishan harshad lala darwaja past Prime minister of Hyderabad has explained the miracle and power of Goddess Bhagya lakshi at charminar. He also said that the floods may go down if they worship at the temple for Lord bhagya lakshi. Regarding this Nawab has offer worship to Goddess Bhagya lakshmi with a golden plate along with Saffron, Turmeric powder, pure pearls and the floods really went down, and  the celebration began as customary at charminar as wll.

In 1968 Kanchi kamakoti sekharendra has established the idol of Goddess Saraswati, and in 2008 the present peetadhipathi jayendra saraswathi has set up a Golden peak and Ganesh idol and now Telangana state government has declared bonalu festival as the state festival.
