timmy Posted July 5, 2014 Author Report Posted July 5, 2014 Even as the new Telangana government has taken up a mission of vacating encroached lands, GHMC officials are being selective in taking action. In Gokul flats episode, officials have slapped notices only on the poor and spared the rich who own posh flats. Gokul flats are spread over Hyder Nagar and Hafeezpet and the land value here is in the order of crores of rupees. Also, the land on which the flats were constructed, has a long history. The lands were taken into possession by Khurshid Jah in the Nizam era. But after the merger of Hyderabad principality into the Union in 1949, the Indian government revoked giving lands in Inam (gift) by enacting the Jagir Abolition and Regulation Act. But another Act of 1956 vested rights in the lessees and land of 107 acres was given to them and descendants of Khurshid Jah are fighting a legal battle for another 107 acres.
