Spartan Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Mahendra Singh Dhoni, celebrating his 33rd birthday on Monday, will become the first Indian captain to lead the team in successive Tests at Trent Bridge when he walks out to toss in the first Investec Test against England on Wednesday. Dattu Gaekwad (1959), Mohammed Azharuddin (1996), Sourav Ganguly (2002) and Rahul Dravid (2007) had all led India in one Test each. India is the last team to have beaten England in a Test match at Trent Bridge. Dravid's team secured a seven-wicket win in July 2007. Since then, England have won all five Tests against New Zealand (2008), Pakistan (2010), India (2011), the West Indies (2012) and Australia (2013). India, playing under Ganguly, also figured in the last drawn Test at Trent Bridge in August 2002. There have been positive results in 10 Tests since then, with England winning eight and Sri Lanka (2006) and India (2007) accounting for the other two. The Indian team of 1996 was the last time any visiting team scored over 500 runs in a Trent Bridge Test. But after India made 521 and England replied with 564 in that game, the home teams of 2002 and 2011 were the only ones who have surpassed the 500-run landmark with 617 and 544 respectively. Both these instances came against the Indian team. Rahul Dravid is the only Indian batsman to have scored more than one Test century at the venue, following his 115 in 2002 with 117 nine years later. Sachin Tendulkar (177) and Sourav Ganguly (136) in 1996 and Virender Sehwag (102) in 2002 are the other Indian Test centurions at Trent Bridge. Michael Vaughan is the only England batsmen to have scored more than one Test century against India at this venue. He made 197 in 2002 and 124 in 2007. Peter May (106 in 1959), Atherton (160 in 1996), Nasser Hussain (107 in 1996) and Ian Bell (159 in 2011) are the other England batsmen to have made centuries against India at the venue. James Anderson has six hauls of five wickets or more in a Test innings and two hauls of 10 wickets or more in a Test match at Trent Bridge. He averages seven wickets per Test at the venue with a total of 49 wickets in seven games. Of the other bowlers who will play the coming Test, Stuart Broad has 21 wickets from five games. Zaheer Khan is the only Indian bowler with a five-for in a Trent Bridge Test. His five for 75 in the second innings of the 2007 game took his match figures to nine for 134 and helped India win the Test by seven wickets.
