Spartan Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 An expert-team from the Airports Authority of India will soon visit Andhra Pradesh to inspect the feasibility of developing international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. The team’s visit has been advanced following request by N. Chandrababu Naidu to civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati Raju recently at the MPs’ meeting. The Centre has promised three international airports to Andhra Pradesh in the AP Reorganisations Act. Officials here said the international airports require a minimum of 9,000 metres of runway. Most states across the country have one or two international airports. Only a few states have three international airports. “Andhra Pradesh will be among those few states to have three international airports if the Central team gives nod after inspecting. Currently, there are almost 10 airstrips in Andhra Pradesh, some of which are dysfunctional,” added the official.
