Every OS update comes with a learning curve. Some enjoy it, some just don’t. If you’re wary of drastic OS updates complicating the way you use your iPhone, the iOS 8 might offer some reprieve.

 

Apple’s next mobile operating system, currently in beta 4, released a new Tips app that provides tutorials on how to use its lesser-known features. It’s a way to help users understand and make use of what’s new in the operating system. Apple has also launched it on its website so that users can access the tutorials on their web browsers.

 

Apple knows that its phones and tablets are popular among older people, thanks to iOS’ minimalist interface. However, anything overly simplified will put off younger users and potentially lose out to Android or Windows Phone. With iOS 8, Apple might want to introduce smarter features while also training the less tech-friendly users about the more advanced features.

 

iOS 7 was a drastic change from the traditional iOS interface that involved a lot of getting-used-to. The Tips app makes perfect sense for Apple as it would hate its next version of iOS to be received with reluctance among its more conservative audience. With Tips, Apple wants to make sure the new OS is as idiot-proof as possible, while allowing new and advanced features. The app is also said to update on a regular basis, showing new ways to use iOS features.

 

Other than the Tips apps, iOS 8 will introduce features such as Wi-Fi calling, a free service that lets subscribers use their voice and messaging services over existing home, office and public Wi-Fi networks, and FaceTime with call waiting.
