Stem Extension N Thesis Defense, Opt Issue Doubts

Can anyone apply for stem extension before defending,

 

lately my professor says I have to work more i dont think u have enough of data to defend

 

can I change back to F1 from OPT n I have one more month of initial OPT which ends in aug 31

 

pls help me n advise

 

if i go back to F1 can i reuse the  one month opt n stem extension that i have unused

no. you need to have degree certificate for extension.

This is news to me , this memo came out in 2013 and i applied in 2012 when it was a must. Some of my frens got RFE then if they did not submit degree cert at that time...

Actually my defense is due this month but feeling scared sent the final document to my advisor he has to review it thoroughly n I think he will not be able to do it within in deadline so thinking what to do n what not to please advise brothers

yup. this is new to me also. as this is official memorandum from USCIS, your school DSO will help you giving i20 for stem extension even if you not completed thesis defense. go ahead and ask your DSO for new i20 for stem extension application.
