solman Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 Data released by the Rajya Sabha shows that nominated members like Sachin Tendulkar and actress Rekha rarely attend the proceedings. Tendulkar and Rekha attended two and three sessions, respectively, between 2013 and 2014. We looked at the data of sessions 229 (convened between August 5, 2013 and September 7, 2013), 230-I (05-12-2013 to 18-12-2013), 230-II (05-2-2014 to 21-2-2014), 231 (9-06-2014 to 11-06-2014) and 232 (07-07-2014 to 14-08-2014). During these sessions, the Rajya sabha met 73 times. Twelve seats in the Rajya Sabha are allocated to nominated MPs. These members are nominated by the President of India from among people who have special knowledge or experience in areas like literature, science, art and social service. The list this year included former minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, Tendulkar, Rekha and poet Javed Akhtar.
