I don't understand about,why the controversy ..

She was chosen a brand ambassador as she is a popular figure and the Telangana state government want's to make some ads (may be tourism or brand building ads) to show case Telangana to world ,as it is a new state and many people in India /abroad still do not know  the fact

 

Companies or brands use popular personalities to crate brand awareness and brand reckoning...just like if associate/think of a brand what comes to our mind is the people who endorse the brand...like 'boost' is to Sachin Tendulkar or a Dhoni for pepsi !

 

In the same way sania may be have been chosen to build Telangana brand..may be people will pay attention when she appears on ads or in print and message will be delivered   !!
