A police party combing the Seshachalam forest came across Tamil Nadu workers cutting the trees. The workers first threw stones on the police and then attacked the with arms. So police opened fire in self-defence. As a result, one smuggler was killed and police took other smugglers into custody. Seshachalam forest area that abuts Tirumala Hills, has become notorious for cutting of red sanders trees by workers, who are employed by smugglers.
