While the intensity of dispute and the level of animosity over Polavaram project between the new states of AP and Telangana is well known, there is another project with a great potential to become equally controversial. Till now, many people believe that Polavaram and Indira Sagar are one and the same, but they are not. The Indira Sagar project is coming up in the Velerupadu mandal of Khammam district. Chances of controversy are there because the project is now part of AP, as Velerupadu is merged with residual AP by an Act of Parliament recently. That means, the project site will be in AP and the ayacut will be in Telangana. It will be easy for any political leader to provoke people on either side!
