kakatiya Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Dipa Karmakar successfully executed the handspring double front vault to win India' first ever medal in Women's Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games. Only three women gymnasts have ever successfully executed the handspring double front vault in competition. Apart from Yelena Produnova, who unveiled this back in 1999, only Dominican Yamilet Peña and Egyptian Fadwa Mahmoud have been known to successfully execute this vault in competition. That was, until now! Dipa Karmakar, who won gold in the Vault at the International Commonwealth Championships in Australia this march, executed the difficult vault, as well as anyone has ever seen other than Produnova herself, to score a massive 15.100 that took her up to 2nd place. Dipa scored 8.100 for her execution and combined with a 7.000 difficulty, she had the best vault of the final, nearly three-tenths better than any vault that the rest of the field could muster. It all started rather tamely on her first vault, fluffing her lines on a regular Tsukahara with a full twist. Dipa split her legs on launch and landed off kilter to score 13.633. Claudia Fragapane could not quite hitthe heights achieved by Dipa Karmakar,but delivered two good vaults to win the gold medal with an average of 14.633. Elsabeth Black of Canada too silver with 14.433 across both her vaults while ecstatic Dipa Karmakar took a deserving bronze. Dipa's second vault puts her into the elite of Women's Gymnastics, if only in the Vault. If Dipa could perfect a second vault, she could look to challenge the very best for medals in any and every competition.

JANASENA Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 great post baa. proud of these guys who are winning medals for india , but my main concern is if modi govt can come forward and help them with some cash price and provide them a coach to get prepared for next olympic games
