Virat Kohli Has Been Recommended For The Padma Shri.

Indian captain MS Dhoni, who is having a tough time currently after two demoralizing defeats on the trot in the Test series against England, has been recommended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Padma Bhushan award, which is the third highest civilian award in the country.

Dhoni, who has awarded with the Padmashree in 2009, will become the 10th cricketer to receive the honour if the BCCI’s recommendation is accepted by the government of India.

“The BCCI felt that Dhoni is the right candidate for the award. Last year, India clinched the Champions Trophy under his leadership and he is the lone Indian captain to win all major ICC tournaments. We felt he deserves it,” a BCCI official was quoted by Indian Express.

Apart from suggesting Dhoni’s name for the Padma Bhushan, the board has also proposed the names of Virat Kohli and female cricketing star Mithali Raj for the Padma Shri award.

Kohli, who was given the Arjuna award last year, has had a difficult few matches in England with his highest score in the series so far being a meagerly 39, but his incredibly consistent performances over the last 2-3 years shouldn’t be forgotten. The fact that he has already racked up 25 international centuries at the age of 25 illustrates his excellence for India, and he totally deserves all the accolades that come his way.

“No one has performed as well as Virat has over the past four years. His performance has been exceptional for the country and we thought recommending him for the Padmashree is justified,” the source added.
