Operation Kahuta is regarded by many as one of the most daring operation ever conducted by RAW. Kahuta housed the famous Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) which was the primary site in Pakistan for producing Highly Enriched Uranium, in other words Uranium which could have been used in developing nuclear weapons, RAW had long suspected that if Pakistan were to develop a nuclear weapon there was no way they could have done it without roping in KRL. 
Now being an intern at BARC i can tell you one thing, i have seen many vital installations, but i've never seen anything more secure than BARC at Trombay,period. Keeping this in mind, just imagine the level of security and scrutiny you will have to face if you were to visit a site where a country was developing it's first ever nuclear weapon, something which the entire world, even your allies would hate. This was what RAW had to overcome.RAW first confirmed Pakistan's nuclear programs by analyzing the hair  samples of scientists snatched from the floor of barber shops near KRL, these when analyzed showed an abnormal level of radiation, something which could have happened only if they were exposed to an environment where weapons-grade uranium was being enriched. Building on this report RAW cultivated an asset deep inside Pakistan's nuclear weapon program and by early 1980s was aware  of the status of Pakistani nuclear weapons.
Sadly, the then PM of India, Morarji Desai during a call to the then Pakistani President, rather foolishly revealed that India knew about Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. This led to elimination of the RAW asset and the subsequent lack of intelligence about the Pakistani nuclear weapons program. Although by then RAW had a fair idea of the extent and aim of the weapon being built by Pakistan, something which even the CIA and other foreign agencies had no clue of.

The Operation Meghdoot was a result of extensive intelligence collected by RAW. The operation was to claim the  Siachen Glacier which became a bone of contention following a vague demarcation of territory as per the Simla Agreement of 1972. The story goes thus...... Pakistanis wanted to lay their claim on the Siachen Glacier and had decided to occupy it on 17th April 1984. But Indians had already occupied it 4 days ahead on 13th April 1984 but how was this possible ??  RAW network was strong enough that they got tipped off of Pakistanis buying Arctic weather gear from London which forms a critical piece of gear for their troops as the Siachen is one of the coldest places on earth. Apparently Pakistanis were so ill informed that they walked into the same store where Indians ordered their Arctic gears :)

Creation of Bangladesh and Aftermath
In the early 1970s, the army of Pakistan prosecuted a bloody military  crackdown in response to the Bangladeshi independence movement. Nearly  10 million refugees fled to India. The R&AW’s Bangladeshi  independence movement began in early 1970 by sowing discord among the  disgruntled population of Bangladesh (then called East Pakistan),  suffering repression by the Pakistani political establishment. This led  to the creation of the Mukti Bahini (Liberation Army of Bengali  resistance movement). RAW was responsible for supplying information and  heavy ammunition to this organization that led to Bangladesh War, its  independence and later self-governance within months. Even USA hasn’t  been successful at achieving this in Afghanistan and Iraq. However,  within months of independence of Bangladesh, Mujibur Rahman (First  President) was assassinated at his residence. R&AW operatives claim  that they had advance information about Mujib-ur-Rahman’s assassination,  but he tragically ignored R&AW’s inputs. He was killed along with  40 members of his family. R&AW thus failed to prevent the  assassination, which led to the loss of a charismatic leader who had a  soft corner for India after all they had done for his country’s  independence. However, R&AW has successfully thwarted plans of  assassinating Sheikh Hasina Wazed, daughter of Mujibur Rahman, by  Islamist extremists and the ISI.

(1) Ajit Doval. .. During operation when terrorists were holed up inside Golden Temple... infiltrated the Golden Temple and pretended to the Terrorists that he was actually a Pakistani ISI agent who had been sent in to advise the terrorists and help them overcome the Indian Forces who were surrounding the Golden Temple and exchanging fire with terrorists.

The terrorists got convinced and he weakened the terrorists from inside, while also helping the Indian forces.

Later when the siege was complete... there were locked rooms inside which the stabbed, injected and strangled bodies of terrorists were found... as if they had been covertly killed by one of them.

He was later awarded Kirti Chakra a bravery award... This award is normally given only to military personnel...

 

Mr.Doval is now India's national security advisor.

India’s diplomatic outreach to bring home 46 nurses as well as help thousands of other Indians in Iraq leave the violence-torn country was steered by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Intelligence Bureau Director Asif Ibrahim, who flew to Baghdad and Riyadh respectively last month, The Hindu has confirmed.

 

Their missions, which were kept secret at the time, were powered by phone calls from External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to her counterparts in the region.

 

At the end of June, the situation for both the 46 nurses in Tikrit as well as 39 men in Mosul seemed bleak, with no real intelligence on rebel groups that were in charge of them and why they were being forcibly held. The ISIS had taken control of several cities, including Tikrit, Mosul and the Baiji refinery.

 

At places, they were assisted by Ba’athist groups still loyal to the residual regime of Saddam Hussein, and rebel military commanders from the Iraqi army, who held areas in a loose tactical coalition as ISIS, which made it even more difficult to open clear lines of communication.

 

Faced with a grim situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Mr. Doval to convene a high-level meeting to discuss the latest intelligence on the fighting in Tikrit and Mosul, as well as the possibilities for a mass evacuation of “all Indians in Iraq, if necessary.” A day after the meeting, on June 25, Mr. Doval went on a top secret mission to Iraq to understand the position on the ground and make high-level contacts in the Iraqi government.

 

Since the conflict zone in Iraq is held mainly by Sunni insurgents and militant groups, Mr. Ibrahim was dispatched to Riyadh on June 25-26 to speak with senior officials about intelligence on these groups.

I read some RAW articles and based on that m,ost of the RAW officers are deployed in either austria or poland......whats so special abt austria to gather intelligence...
