Nellore Pedda reddy Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Opening This Week - August 22 Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) 102 min - Action | Crime | Thriller Metascore: 41/100 (11 reviews) Some of Sin City's most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants. Directors: Frank Miller | Robert Rodriguez Stars: Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt Watch Trailer Add to Watchlist Get Tickets THE BUZZ: Back in the mid-2000s, Sin City and 300 exposed the world of non-superhero comics to sunlight and became so successful that people like David Fincher looked to turn material such as Charles Burns's Black Hole into movies. Outsiders including Preacher, Sandman, Y: The Last Man were also candidates ... A decade later, it's a different landscape - one clearly dominated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics' tentative first steps into franchise-dom. How does Sin City's sequel fit into the frame? I'm not quite sure. The original didn't have the worldwide reach that 300 achieved, but it did earn just shy of $75 million in the U.S. (and $85 million overseas) but not only was that a different time - it was a different time of year (an early-summer release vs. late in the season here). I just don't see Marv, Nancy, and the others carving out the same territory, and it's always hard to gauge the behavior of a cult audience when viewing options abound. Looked what happened with Kick-Ass 2 - maybe the best direct comparison. When the Game Stands Tall (2014) 115 min - Drama | Sport The journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport. Director: Thomas Carter Stars: Jim Caviezel, Alexander Ludwig, Michael Chiklis, Laura Dern Watch Trailer Add to Watchlist Get Tickets THE BUZZ: It's getting easy to forget that Alexander Ludwig's leading-man status began inauspiciously with The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising. Here, the young actor diversifies his appeal with a true-life sports drama from the director of Coach Carter. If I Stay (2014) 106 min - Drama Metascore: 47/100 (7 reviews) Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined. Director: R.J. Cutler Stars: Chloë Grace Moretz, Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, Joshua Leonard Watch Trailer Add to Watchlist Get Tickets THE BUZZ: Acknowledging this movie's inescapable comparisons to The Fault in Our Stars, I can't help but think the story's insular nature and straight-drama feel will keep audiences at bay. That's quite a talented cast, no matter how the film plays or its opening weekend shakes out.
