Cover Drive: Apple Says Icloud Wasn't Breached In Celebrity Photo Leak

The exact vector of entry remains unknown right now, but AnonIB, one of the 4chan-esque imageboards that appears to be involved in the proliferation of this mess, seems to have no shortage of people who were ready and willing to "rip" iCloud accounts in exchange for the right sort of loot. Of course, one has to wonder about the role semantics plays in all this -- while Apple's systems may not have been technically "breached", they may still have been cajoled into giving up user credentials with tools like the now defunct ibrute. We wanted to provide an update to our investigation into the theft of photos of certain celebrities. When we learned of the theft, we were outraged and immediately mobilized Apple's engineers to discover the source. Our customers' privacy and security are of utmost importance to us. After more than 40 hours of investigation, we have discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions, a practice that has become all too common on the Internet. None of the cases we have investigated has resulted from any breach in any of Apple's systems including iCloud® or Find my iPhone. We are continuing to work with law enforcement to help identify the criminals involved.

To protect against this type of attack, we advise all users to always use a stong password and enable two-step verification. Both of these are addressed on our website at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4232.

it wasnt i cloud hacking bro... it was a phishing attack and some are saying that the account info  was stolen frm the devices that were connected to the WIFI at the recent Emmy awards .... icloud ni hack cheyatam next to impossible.... also , some ppl r saying that the pics were collected over a period of time (5-6 yrs) , i saw a reddit post abt this , will share if i find it..

yeah ... deep web lo post chesaru anta first asking fr bitcoins as donations but not many ppl came forward to pay .. so they released them antunnaru..

 

also ,apple accnt ki 2layer security feature untadi but ppl dont usually activate that , adi chesthe its impossible to even phish for the accnt details.... atleast nw many ppl realized the importance of activating multiple layers of security..
