Kandahar in Afghanistan is nothing but erstwhile empire of Gandhaar which is mentioned in Mahabharata. 
Sanatan Dharma extended far and wide across the world and it's only now that we've begin to appreciate its worldwide influence. 

Here is a Ganesha idol from 5th century in Afghanistan.

Oh by the way .. The idol looks a bit broken off. It's not the work of time and geology. It's the work of jihadis in the region. Just like the bamiyan statues of Buddha.
