IT major Microsoft sees a bright future for Visakhapatnam with the Andhra Pradesh Government announcing its intention to make it an ideal destination for investors in IT, pharma, R&D, electronic clusters and other sectors.

In an interview to The Hindu here on Thursday, Managing Director of Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) Anil Bhansali said they would watch the developments in Visakhapatnam for some time before announcing their future plans.

To a question whether they had plans to set up a campus in Visakhapatnam, he replied “not immediately. We will wait for some time.”

Earlier, CII Vizag zone IT committee head and CEO of Symbiosys Technologies O. Naresh Kumar briefed him about plans to develop IT Investment Region and bring in major IT players by constructing iconic towers to transform the city, into one of the leading IT hubs in the country. To a question, Mr. Bhansali said their focus would be on taking mobile ‘first, cloud first’ mantra to their partners. The priority would be on cloud computing, big data, mobility and devices, enterprise social software and sales and marketing. He said they had six entities in India which includes MSIDC, Microsoft India Sales Marketing and Services Group, Microsoft Research India, Microsoft Global Delivery India, Microsoft IT India and Microsoft Global Technology Support Centre representing complete Microsoft product lifecycle.

Mr. Bhansali declined to spell out their business turnover and expansion plans by saying they were doing extremely well. He said MSIDC set up at Gachibowli in Hyderabad in 1998 with 20 employees had now a headcount of over 2,000 due to working closely with product engineering teams of Microsoft Corporation’s headquarters at Redmond. “The Hyderabad centre has become one of Microsoft’s largest development centres outside the United States,” he stated.
