jbourne Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 HYDERABAD: Should school textbooks have Telangana dialect as it is spoken in the state or should the same Telugu continue? Telugu language syllabus from classes 1 to 10 is in for a complete overhaul in Telangana state and the new syllabus will be included from the academic year 2015-16. The state government recently constituted committees to make recommendations on the Telugu syllabus. While there will certainly not be an issue about including the history of Telangana and culture in the syllabus, which chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants, the committee will debate on whether the textbooks will be written in Telangana dialect. "My opinion is that the Telangana dialect will have to be incorporated in the Telugu language textbooks. Having achieved a Telangana state, it is only logical that the language gets its due status. There are bound to be differences of opinion on this but in my view all the Telugu textbooks should be written in the Telangana dialect itself," said Telugu language expert Nalemela Bhaskar, a retired lecturer from Karimnagar. Bhaskar's name has been included in the committee under the experts category of the Telugu Textbooks Review. Prof P Kanakaiah of Telugu University, Nizamabad said he had met some of the committee members and urged that there should be no compromise on adopting the Telangana dialect in the textbooks. "There is no need to use the Sanskritised Telugu anymore. The Telangana dialect is simple. People may argue that it would be a bit odd to read the dialect in textbooks but one should only get used to it. What's the point in not writing the way we speak?" Kanakaiah said. Though the government recently issued a GO constituted the committee, the members are yet to be formally communicated about their inclusion in the committee. "There will have to be several meetings and decisions will be taken. From the next academic year, there will be new Telugu syllabus textbooks," Nalimela Bhaskar said. The committee's members include: Prof Ramakant Agnihotri (rtd) Delhi University, New Delhi (national level), Ravva Srihari, ex-vice chancellor, Dravida University, Kuppam, Prof Kovela Suprasannacharya, rtd, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Prof Banna llaiah, Kakatiya University, Warangal, S Raghu, asst prof, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Bala Srinivas Murthy, asst prof Telangana University, Nizamabad (state level) and a group of experts including Chukka Ramaiah, educationist, Hyderabad, Nandini Sidha Reddy, rtd lecturer, Siddipet, Medak, Deshipathi Srinivas, Telugu Pandit, Medak, D Chandra Shekar Reddy, rtd Principal, Oriental College, Hyderabad, D Samba Murthy, rtd principal, CTE, Warangal, Venu Sankoju, rtd lecturer (Telangana Rachayithala Vedhika), Nalgonda and Nalimela Bhasker, rtd lecturer, Karimnagar. eenadu language is correct language i feel pichchodi chetilo raayi laga ayindii kada
