Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja is back after the success of ‘Balupu’ with the movie ‘Power’. The film is releasing today in a massive way across many centres and with good expectations. ‘Power’ has been directed by Bobby and Rockline Venkatesh is the producer. The movie has Hansika and Regina in the lead roles. Can Ravi Teja live up to the expectations and deliver with ‘Power’ ? Let us see.

Story :

Baldev Saha (Ravi Teja) is a very corrupt but daring and dashing police officer. He loses his life in one attempt to rescue a dreaded gangster named Ganguly (Sampath ). This leads to confusion and chaos in the Kolkata political and mafia circles. The Home Minister of West Bengal (Mukesh Rishi) is desperate to find the whereabouts of Ganguly.

In the meantime, Tirupathi (Ravi Teja) surfaces in the town of Hyderabad and he is shown as the brother in law of a police inspector named Animuthyam (Brahmanandam). Tirupathi’s sole aim in life is to become a cop and he tries every trick in the book to become one.

Mukesh Rishi’s eyes fall on Tirupathi and he convinces the youngster to step into the shoes of Baldev Saha. Tirupathi is delighted to oblige and he finally hunts down Ganguly and hands him over to the Home Minister.

This is when the real twist is revealed and a mystery behind the death of Baldev Saha is cleared. Who is Tirupathi? What happened to Baldev Saha? Why is the Home Minister so desperate to get Ganguly?

That is the story of ‘Power’.

Plus Points :

Ravi Teja is very handsome looking in the film, especially in the role of Baldev Saha. He looks macho and his power packed performance is a major saving grace for the film. In the role of Tirupathi, he is pretty good.

Hansika and Regina do not have any importance in the story but they look good and bring much needed glamour into the movie.

The first half of the film is pretty entertaining with some good comedy involving Brahmanandam, Sapthagiri and Ravi Teja. Hansika too joins in. The interval episode is neatly executed, with a nice twist.

Minus Points :

The story of this movie is very routine and the second half is quite old in terms of treatment and scenes. Most of the scenes are a mixture of ‘Balupu’, ‘Vikramarkudu’ and even ‘Daruvu’.

After the good first half, the director lost focus in the second half and the climax episode is very bad. It resembles the climax of ‘Balupu’, with a parody song also coming in at the end. Speaking of songs, none of them are good and they disturb the flow of story.

Though Ravi Teja looks deadly as a powerful cop, the director could not effectively handle his character. As a result, there is unnecessary confusion and lack of gripping emotions in the film.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is good . Thaman’s background music is decent but he needs to develop some fresh tunes or risk becoming monotonous. Bobby makes an ok impression as a director but he needs to ensure that the graph of the film never goes down. He could not handle the pace in the second half.

Dialogues are ok.

Verdict :

‘ Power ‘ is going to end up as an average entertainer for Ravi Teja. A strong first half is a good asset for the movie but a below par second half spoiled the overall experience somewhat. Hansika and Regina add glamour to the movie. Business wise, the movie will have a tough fight as ‘Aagadu’ is getting ready to come in a week’s time.

Power Movie Review - GULte

Mass Maharaja Raviteja is back with Power after putting an end to his miserable run with Balupu. The writer of Balupu, Ravindra turned director with this film. This is yet another mass entertainer from Raviteja, who owns this film with 'Power' packed performance.

What is it about?

Baladev Sahay (Raviteja) is a corrupt police officer, who dies in the mission of saving a criminal. Tirupathi (Raviteja) who looks exactly like Baladev dreams of becoming a police. Home Minister of West Bengal (Mukesh Rushi) gets shocked by seeing Tirupathi who exactly looks like Baladev. He calls upon Tirupathi and appoints him as ACP. What Tirupathi does as ACP forms rest of the story.

Performances:

Raviteja:
 
This character(s) is tailor made for Raviteja. He steals the show in every frame he is in. He looked younger than his previous films and it is an absolute treat to watch him in the role of Tirupathi. His dance moves in Notanki song are very good.
 
Hansika and Regina:
 
Hansika is good in an entertaining role. Her character doesn't have much scope in the second half, but did well within her limitations. Regina is a very good actress and she is impressive in her brief role.
 
Others:
 
Mukesh Rushi, Sampath and other villains did routine characters. Kota is good in the supporting role. Brahmanandam and Saptagiri's comedy is good in parts.

Director Ravindra knows how to deal with a commercial film. He throws in good twists at the right intervals and keeps the audience interested in spite of an age old story. He knows the pulse of the common Telugu audience. He serves them what they look for in a Raviteja's film.

Thaman's music is good. Devuda Devuda, Badmash Pori, Notanki songs are good and will click with the masses. Background score is alright.
 
Others:                 
                                                          
Cinematography is very good. The film looks grand in every frame. Editing could have been crispier in the second half. Production values are superb.

Routine Treatment

Analysis:

Power is a standard Raviteja film that plays for the galleries. Director didn't care about the logics and loose ends in the film. He simply banked upon the capabilities of Raviteja and presented him in a pleasing way. First half will entertain people who look for lighter moments and second half has powerful action scenes for the masses.
 
Power is a package of all the commercial elements and has some good songs to fall back on when the pace gets sluggish. Raviteja shoulders the film right from the start to end with his flawless performance. There are some dull moments and too routine happenings that hamper the flow of the film. But Director Ravindra throws in an occasional twist or a hero elevation scene to put things back on track.
           
Power is a film that is made for audience who doesn't mind to watch the routine masala fare. It is old wine in a new bottle. In other words, it is a cocktail of various Telugu movies. You may watch it for time pass. Power will rule the box office until Aagadu arrives and the later run of the film will depend upon the box office performance of this season's biggest release.

Story

ACP Baldev Sahay (Ravi Teja) is a corrupt cop in Kolkata. He dies in a fierce fight. Tirupathi (Ravi Teja) is a cop wannabe in Hyderabad. The home minister of Kolkata recruits Tirupathi to play as ACP Baldev as he looks like him. Rest of the story is all about why ACP Baldev became a corrupt cop and how Thirupathi executed the the unfinished mission of Baldev.

Artists Performance

Actors: Ravi Teja is synonymous with entertainment and energy. He has made sure that there is ample entertainment and emotional action sequences in the movie. He performs both roles with ease.Hansika Motwani is bubbly/enthusiastic and provides much needed glamour. Regina Cassandra has minimal roles and performs well.Prakash Raj plays a vital role, but has a limited screen time.Brahmanandam plays another entertaining role as hero’s bava. Saptagiri is entertaining as sidekick of heroine. Mukesh Rishi and Sampath Nandi play negative roles. Ajay and Subbaraju are intense with their work. Brahmaji gets a meaty role and does well. Posani Krishna Murali is hilarious with his ‘daevuda’ mannerism.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie has commercial potential, but gives a deja vu feeling and lack logic in few scenes. The dual play reminds us of Vikramarkudu and corrupt cop angle is similar to Bala Krishna’s role in Lakshmi Narasimha. The Lungi dance in the climax reminds of Gangnam dance in Ravi Teja’s latest movie Balupu. The first time director KS Ravindra (Bobby) succeeds as a commercial director in getting most of the film right. He is good at handling entertainment episodes and he has brought Rajamouli kind of emotion in Port fight in second half. He should have taken care of logic in few scenes and some scenes are edited abruptly. Bobby has potential to become a big commercial director in the future. But he should try fresh stories instead of going for commercial proven and oft-repeated plots.

Other departments: I liked Badmash Pilla and Notanki song on screen. Champesinde and Nuvvu Nenu and remind us of Nee Yedalo Naaku Chotu Vaddu and Saree Ka Fall from Awara and R Raj Kumar (Hindi) respectively. Background music by Thaman is good. Dialogues written by Kona Venkat are very good. He is good at playing with words and its evident in this film too. Cinematography by Jayanan Vincent is good, but some of the visuals are tinkered heavily during digital intermediate. Action sequences composed by Ram Laxman and Allan Amin are grand. But the first fight is ineffective due to poor graphics work. The port fight is very good and holds the emotional value we see in fights of Rajamouli’s films. Art direction byBrahma Kadali is good. Editing should have been better. Producer Rockline Venkatesh has made this movie with good production values.

Analysis: First half of the film offers entertainment and second half has emotions and action sequences. Plus points of the film are entertainment and commercial elements. On the flipside, keeping few logics intact and smooth progression of scenes would have made the film better. Power has all the ingradients you expect from Ravi Teja - entertainment and mass elements. Director Bobby is a director who has ability to make it big as a commercial director. Ravi Teja’s comes up with another commercial entertainer after Balupu that has good scope to work well at box office. You may watch it!

ఇంతకుముందు వేరే వేరే భాషలలో హిట్టైన చిత్రాలలోని సీన్స్,కథలు తెలుగుదనం అద్దుకుని దిగేవి...దాంతో ఎంతో కొంత కొత్తదనం చూస్తున్నాం అనే ఫీల్ ఉండేది. ఇప్పుడు ట్రెండ్ మారినట్లుంది. తెలుగులో హిట్టైన సినిమాలు నాలుగు తీసుకుని ఓ కథని వండేసి వడ్డించేస్తున్నారు. అలాంటి పరమ రొటీన్ వంటకమే ..‘పవర్' టైటిల్ తో దిగింది. అల్లుడు శీను,బలుపు చిత్రాలకు కథలు అందించిన బాబి దర్శకుడుగా మారి అందించిన ఈ చిత్రం మాస్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ ని అద్దాలనే తాపత్రయమే తప్ప, మిగతా విషయాలపై దృష్టి పెట్టినట్లు కనపడదు. అయితే రవితేజ ఫెరఫార్మెన్స్, ఆయన పాడిన నోటంకి పాట సినిమాకు ఉన్నంతలో దన్నుగా నిలిచాయి. కలకత్తాలో బలదేవ్ సహాయ్ (రవితేజ) ఓ అవినీతి పోలీసు అధికారి. అతను గంగూలీ భాయ్ (సంపత్ రాజ్) అనే గ్యాంగస్టర్ ని కోర్టుకు తీసుకువెళ్తున్న సమయంలో సేవ్ చేసి, అండర్ గ్రౌండ్ కు తీసుకువెళ్లాలనుకుంటాడు. ఆ ప్రాసెస్ లో తన ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోతాడు. కట్ చేస్తే హైదరాబాద్ లో ...తిరుపతి(రవితేజ) పోలీస్ ఉద్యోగం కావాలని, అదే జీవితాశయంగా తిరుగుతున్న కుర్రాడు. అతన్ని విలన్(ముకేష్ రుషి) ఓ రోజు టీవిలో చూస్తాడు. దాంతో అతన్ని తీసుకువచ్చి చనిపోయిన బలదేవ్ సహాయ్ ప్లేస్ లో ప్రవేశపెట్టి తన పనులు జరుపుకోవాలనుకుంటాడు. అప్పుడు అసలైన ట్విస్ట్ రివిల్ అవుతుంది. ఇంతకీ ఆ ట్విస్ట్ ఏంటి...విలన్స్ కు హీరో ఎలా బుద్ది చెప్పాడు...బ్రహ్మానందం పాత్ర ఏమిటి అనేది మిగతా కథ. రవితేజ సూపర్ హిట్ విక్రమార్కుడు చిత్రం కు చిన్న ట్విస్ట్ కలిపి మరో వెర్షన్ లా ఉండే ఈ చిత్రంలో ఇప్పటికే చాలా తెలుగు సినిమాల్లో వచ్చిన రొటీన్ సీన్స్ కు తోడు,రొటీన్ కథ,కథనం కూడా తోడైంది. చివరకు క్లైమాక్స్ సైతం రీసెంట్ గా రవితేజ హీరోగా వచ్చిన బలుపునే తిరిగి చెయ్యాలనుకోవటం దారుణమనిపిస్తుంది. సందర్బం ఉన్నా లేకపోయినా బ్రహ్మానందంపై పాట పెట్టేస్తే జనం ఎగబడి చూసేస్తారనే భ్రమలా అనిపిస్తుంది. సాధారణంగా కమర్షియల్ చిత్రాల్లో కథలో నమ్ముకున్న ట్విస్ట్ లు పేలకపోయినా లేకపోతే ట్విస్ట్ లు సరిగ్గా లేకపోయినా చాలా ప్రెడిక్టబుల్ గా కథ,కథనం నడుస్తాయి. అదే ఈ సినిమాకు జరిగింది. ఎక్కడో క్లైమాక్స్ లో చిన్న ట్విస్ట్ పెట్టుకుని దాని చుట్టూ అల్లుకుంటూ వచ్చినట్లుంది.

పెద్ద మైనస్

సినిమాను పూర్తి స్దాయిలో జస్టిఫై చేసి నిలబెట్టాల్సిన ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ సీన్స్ దారుణంగా తేలిపోయాయి. ఆ సీన్స్ చాలా పాతవి కావటం దానికి తోడు వాటిని చిత్రీకరించే పద్దతి కూడా అలాగే ఉంది. దాంతో అప్పటిదాకా బిల్డప్ చేసుకుంటూ వచ్చింది మొత్తం పోయింది.
రాకింగ్

రవితేజ గురించి ఈ చిత్రం లో ప్రత్యేకంగా చెప్పుకోవాలి. వయిసు పెరుగుతున్నా ఎక్కడా ఉత్సాహం తగ్గకుండా అదే ఎనర్జీతో సీన్స్ ముందుకు వెళ్లటం చాలా ఆశ్చర్యం అనిపిస్తుంది. అలాగే ఇంకా అందంగా ఈ చిత్రంలో కనిపించాడు.
గజనీ ట్రాక్

గజనీ చిత్రంలోని అసిన్ ట్రాక్ ని గుర్తు చేస్తూ...రెజీనా పాత్రను, బలుపులో శృతిహాసన్ ను గుర్తు చేస్తూ హన్సిక పాత్రలు రాసుకున్నాడు దర్శకుడు. దాంతో ఈ రెండు పాత్రలకూ స్పెషల్ ఐడింటిటీ లేకుండా పోయింది.
బ్రహ్మీ, సప్తగిరి, పోసాని

ముగ్గరూ త్రిమూర్తుల్లా సినిమాను కామెడీ తో కాపు కాస్తారని దర్శకుడు భావించినట్లున్నాడు. అయితే అవి కథలో భాగమైతే ఖచ్చితంగ వర్కవుట్ అయ్యిదే.
డబుల్ మీనింగ్

రవితేజ లాంటి స్టార్ హీరో సినిమాల్లో సాధారణంగా డబుల్ మీనింగ్ సీన్స్, డైలాగులు ఉండవనే భావిస్తారు. అయితే రచయితే దర్శకుడు అయిన బాబి దాన్ని బ్రేక్ చేయాలనుకున్నాడు.
టెక్నికల్ గా...

సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. అలాగే తమన్ బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ సైతం బాగుంది. డైలాగ్స్ అక్కడక్కడా బాగానే పేలాయి. ఎడిటింగ్ మరింత బాగా షార్ట్ గా చేయించుకుని లెంగ్త్ తగ్గించుకుని ఉంటే మరింత ఫలితం బాగుండేది.

సంగీతం 

తమన్ ఇచ్చే ట్యూన్స్ పరమ రొటీన్ గా ఉంటాయనే గత కొంత కాలంగా విమర్శలు వస్తూనే ఉన్నాయి. అయితే ఈ సినిమాలో రవితేజ చేత పాడించిన నోటింకి పాట బాగా ఇచ్చారు. అలాగే ఆడియో కూడా సినిమాకు ఉన్నంతలో ప్లస్ అయ్యింది.

దర్శకత్వం...

దర్శకుడుగా పెద్ద హీరోనే బాగానే హ్యాండిల్ చేసాడని కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో అనిపిస్తుంది. అయితే సెకండాఫ్ మరింత బాగా రాసుకుని ఉంటే బాగుండేది. అలాగే...రవితేజని స్ట్రిక్ట్ పోలీస్ అధికారిగా చూపించినప్పుడు ఆ పేస్ మెయింటైన్ చేస్తే మరింత బాగుండేది.

ఇదెంతుకు పట్టించుకోలేదో

రచయత నుంచి దర్శకుడు గా మారినప్పుడు బలమైన స్క్రిప్టుని ఆశిస్తారు. అయితే దర్శకుడు బాబి ఈ విషయంలో ఫెయిలయ్యాడనిపిస్తుంది. హీరో ఫలానా మిషన్ కోసం ఇదంతా చేస్తున్నాడని ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ రివిల్ చేసినప్పుడు ఆ మిషన్ వల్ల బాగుపడేదెవరు అనే స్పష్టత మరింత ఇవ్వాల్సింది. అలాగే ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ లో ప్లాష్ బ్యాక్ రావటం స్క్రిప్టులో కన్ఫూజన్ ని చూపిస్తోంది.

గజనీ చిత్రంలోని అసిన్ ట్రాక్ ని గుర్తు చేస్తూ...రెజీనా పాత్రను, బలుపులో శృతిహాసన్ ను గుర్తు చేస్తూ హన్సిక పాత్రలు రాసుకున్నాడు దర్శకుడు. దాంతో ఈ రెండు పాత్రలకూ స్పెషల్ ఐడింటిటీ లేకుండా పోయింది.

ముగ్గరూ త్రిమూర్తుల్లా సినిమాను కామెడీ తో కాపు కాస్తారని దర్శకుడు భావించినట్లున్నాడు. అయితే అవి కథలో భాగమైతే ఖచ్చితంగ వర్కవుట్ అయ్యిదే.
డబుల్ మీనింగ్

రవితేజ లాంటి స్టార్ హీరో సినిమాల్లో సాధారణంగా డబుల్ మీనింగ్ సీన్స్, డైలాగులు ఉండవనే భావిస్తారు. అయితే రచయితే దర్శకుడు అయిన బాబి దాన్ని బ్రేక్ చేయాలనుకున్నాడు.
టెక్నికల్ గా...

సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. అలాగే తమన్ బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ సైతం బాగుంది. డైలాగ్స్ అక్కడక్కడా బాగానే పేలాయి. ఎడిటింగ్ మరింత బాగా షార్ట్ గా చేయించుకుని లెంగ్త్ తగ్గించుకుని ఉంటే మరింత ఫలితం బాగుండేది.

సంగీతం 

తమన్ ఇచ్చే ట్యూన్స్ పరమ రొటీన్ గా ఉంటాయనే గత కొంత కాలంగా విమర్శలు వస్తూనే ఉన్నాయి. అయితే ఈ సినిమాలో రవితేజ చేత పాడించిన నోటింకి పాట బాగా ఇచ్చారు. అలాగే ఆడియో కూడా సినిమాకు ఉన్నంతలో ప్లస్ అయ్యింది.

దర్శకత్వం...

దర్శకుడుగా పెద్ద హీరోనే బాగానే హ్యాండిల్ చేసాడని కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో అనిపిస్తుంది. అయితే సెకండాఫ్ మరింత బాగా రాసుకుని ఉంటే బాగుండేది. అలాగే...రవితేజని స్ట్రిక్ట్ పోలీస్ అధికారిగా చూపించినప్పుడు ఆ పేస్ మెయింటైన్ చేస్తే మరింత బాగుండేది.

ఇదెంతుకు పట్టించుకోలేదో

రచయత నుంచి దర్శకుడు గా మారినప్పుడు బలమైన స్క్రిప్టుని ఆశిస్తారు. అయితే దర్శకుడు బాబి ఈ విషయంలో ఫెయిలయ్యాడనిపిస్తుంది. హీరో ఫలానా మిషన్ కోసం ఇదంతా చేస్తున్నాడని ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ రివిల్ చేసినప్పుడు ఆ మిషన్ వల్ల బాగుపడేదెవరు అనే స్పష్టత మరింత ఇవ్వాల్సింది. అలాగే ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ లో ప్లాష్ బ్యాక్ రావటం స్క్రిప్టులో కన్ఫూజన్ ని చూపిస్తోంది.
