Tennis star Sania Mirza on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, days after she has won the Mixed Doubles Event at the US Open 2014.

Earlier in the day, she also met President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Modi, on hearing the news of her victory on September 6, had congratulated her on Twitter.

 

"Congratulations to Sania Mirza for the victory in the US Open Mixed Doubles Finals. We are very proud of the achievement," he had said.

The President too had congratulated Sania on the win, saying she had done "India proud through this achievement".

Sania and Bruno Soares from Brazil won the mixed doubles trophy 6-1, 2-6,1 1-9 defeating the pair of Abigail Spears from USA and Santiago Gonzalez from Mexico in just 60 minutes.
