HYDERABAD: Hero MotoCorp will set up its sixth two-wheeler manufacturing plant in the country at Sri City SEZ in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

The state Cabinet which met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu decided to allocate 600 acres of land for the unit, official sources said.

Hero will invest Rs 2,200 crore in the plant which is expected to provide direct employment to 6,000 persons. The unit will also create indirect employment for another 3,000 persons, the sources added.

A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Hero MotoCorp (rpt) MotoCorp and Sri City promoters here tomorrow.

The government's decision on land allocation comes after a meeting between Chief Minister Naidu and Hero MotoCorp Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Pawan Munjal in New Delhi on Saturday.

With Hero announcing its expansion plans, the Chief Minister requested to set up its two-wheeler manufacturing unit in AP and offered various incentives, sources added.
