Fran Drescher Wears Red Dress, Bindi on Wedding Day

 

She may be Happily Divorced on TV, but on September 7, Fran Drescher toasted to quite the opposite.

The 56-year-old actress married Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, 50, at their beachfront home in Los Angeles, and People has the couple's official wedding photo.

Dresher stood out at the all white-themed ceremony in a red Badgley Mischka dress, which is a color typically worn by Indian brides. In keeping with Hindu marriage tradition, she also wore a bindi on her forehead during the ceremony and at the reception. Though the bindi was once primarily a symbol of marriage and signified fertility and being blessed with children, it has now become a fashionable accessory for Hindu females of all ages, regardless of their marital status.

Ayyadurai, whom Fran dated for a little more than a year before exchanging vows, sported a white Ralph Lauren suit and flip-flops.

"We had a wonderful wedding. The Hindu swamiji did Ganesha, Murugan and Lakshmi mantras. Very auspicious," the Bombay-born innovator shared earlier this month.

The former Nanny star has immersed herself in Indian culture since hooking up with Ayyadurai. She told Us Weekly last year that she enjoys cooking with her beau.

About 60 guests were in attendance to watch the duo wed.

Ayyadurai, who holds the patent for creating email, met the actress when he gave a talk at an event hosted by Deepak Chopra.

"Fran heard my talk and we fell in love, and we've been together since that talk," he told the Huffington Post. "Every day is a celebration with Fran. Every day is almost a romantic hangout with her. We're always laughing, always enjoying ourselves."
