The Mars Orbiter Mission is called Mangalyan launched into earth orbit on 5 th November 2013 by the Indian Space Reasearch Organisation - ISRO . It is expected to enter Mars around 24 th September 2014 and it is India 's first interplanetary mission and if it is successful it would be the fourth in the world after Soviet space program , NASA, and the European Space Agency. Hence it will be a crucial day for India in the space history and hope the wishes of all the people come true with a safe insertion of Mangalyaan

The search for methane in the Martian atmosphere is probably the most significant part of the MOM mission. Martian methane has been detected by sensors on Earth, but NASA's robotic rover Curiosity has failed to find the gas during its time on the planet. The Indian spacecraft will also examine the rate of loss of atmospheric gases to outer space, says the BBC. "This could provide insights into the planet's history; billions of years ago, the envelope of gases around Mars is thought to have been more substantial."
