They are taught calculus and other math to a great extent in high school. By the time they reach college, their knowledge of math is quite excellent. I too have taught many Indian and Asians, and the "expectations" of their children are extremely high. And they don't try to take the easy approach to learning politics, communications, AA studies. No, they work hard to master mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, and the likes. There really should be two different schools in our society. One for the talkers, and the other for the doers. But more importantly is the commitment that their parents make to the importance of education, and the respect they have for teachers and the institutions. We are sorely lacking in this area.
