ChampakDas Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 compared to NASA's $671m. Using the big mac index, the ISRO mars mission cost is around $205m. The study started in 2010. Direct costs are likely to be a big component. Considering the low wages in India and the accuracy of the claim, should one be proud of this? The reality is, MAVEN and MOM are two very different missions. MOM is expected to last six months. MAVEN is expected to live for one earth year, and hopefully two (one Martian year). MOM weighs 1300 kg. MAVEN, 2400kg (including fuel). MOM is a technology demonstration. If India were trying to launch a MAVEN-class mission, it would have cost about the same as MAVEN. And there would have been a lot higher probability for a mission failure simply due to the inexperience. India needed to do a mission like this first. You are really comparing two things that have little to compare other than the fact that they traveled to and orbit the same planet.

vaade_veedu Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 I know man but the topic came because of criticism. Maven is a land rover mom is simply atmospheric satellite

iTeachSAP Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 We cant compare apples to oranges.. Like i said in my earlier post.. Landing on Unknown planet is not an easiest thing. Everything has to be executed perfectly.koncham speed atu itu ayina motham 10gi natte.. Gravitoonal force estimate chesi velocity ki calculate chesi.. Entha Elevation nunchi landing expect chesthunamo estimate cheyadam chala kashtam man.. NASA is succeeded in that.. Look at the equipment that rover has.. It has high definition image capturing system.. It can dig in to a huge rock.. It can collect materials for years..it can float on water..it can resist any kind of temperature.. Its a six sigma implemented project with a minimal number of defects..
