Three Get Jail Term For Attack On Chandrababu Naidu Convoy

Three persons were found guilty on Thursday by a Tirupati court of carrying out a landmine blast near the temple town in October 2003 targeting the convoy of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. They were sentenced to four-year imprisonment.

Tirupati Additional Senior Civil Judge also imposed a Rs 5,000 fine on each of the three convicts — A Ramamohan Reddy, Narasimha Reddy and Chandu alias Keshav.

 

While Narasimha Reddy and Keshav have been found guilty of planting the bomb, Ramamohan, a sub-editor with the now-banned Maoist magazine Kranti, was convicted for his role in the blast.

 

On October 1, 2003, suspected Maoists triggered a landmine explosion as the convoy of Naidu passed by near Alipiri in Tirupati. The car in which Naidu was travelling overturned, but he and three others survived with minor injuries. In October 2010, two people were convicted and sentenced to seven-year jail, but
