Leave a Comment When it comes to choosing a meal replacement shake, I would always just go to something I found online with a decent protein to carb ratio. For a while though I was using Serious Mass from Optimum Nutrition. Although I liked the shake, it was a bit much for me. I mean, I’m only 5’4″ and weigh 160 lbs. So having something with 250 carbs per serving is a bit much to say the least. Also cost is always an issue. After paying for whey, creatine, pre-workout and other supplements the last thing I want is to spend 3-4 dollars per serving on a meal replacement. The good thing about buying supplements is that you already have the ingredients for a great meal replacement. I was messing around the kitchen today thinking of what I could use for a post workout shake and spend as little as possible. What I came up with I’m sure is no where near original but I feel is the best option for most people. It can be adjusted based on your specific goals. The breakdown is simple. Your going to need oatmeal, vanilla protein powder, stevia and cinnamon. To be more specific here is what I used: Quakers Old Fashioned Oats – 1/2 cup Optimum Nutriton Gold Standard Vanilla Whey – 1 scoop Optimum Nutrition Vanilla Casein – 1 scoop Stevia in the Raw – 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon – 1/4 -1/2 tsp First I threw the Oats in the food processor and blended it until it was a fine powder. Then I added the whey, casein, stevia, cinnamon and 16 oz of water. The end result was better than I thought. I didn’t expect it to taste as good as it did and it kept me full for a while before my next meal. The best part is I could add more or less of any ingredient depending on my diet. And when it comes to the price. Its right around $1 – $1.50, depending on what protein you buy. Now if you want, you can revamp that and take out the stevia and cinnamon and replace it with frozen fruit to add sweetness and taste to your shake.
