bokadia Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 ltt Telangana Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao put the blame on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the power supply problems of Telangana State. Mr. Harish Rao alleged that it is because of AP’s refusal to give Telangana its due share of power generated in Lower Sileru hydro-electric station and Krishnapatnam thermal project that the farming and industrial sectors were facing acute shortage of power. The neighbouring State was also violating Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, by not sharing power generated in its territory in ratio specified by the Act – 53 (Telangana):47 (AP), he said. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he explained that about 700 MW power generated in Lower Sileru (460 MW) and Krishnapatnam (800 MW) should have been given to Telangana by AP according to the bifurcation Act. However, AP was denying Telangana its share of power from Krishnapatnam by showing the generation only as trial run. The senior leader of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) said injustice was being done to Telangana for decades as thermal plants with only 2,200 MW capacity were set up here against 4,410 MW capacity in AP, in spite of the fact that coal was available in Telangana (Singareni). Against the demand of 6,200 MW, power available to Telangana was only 4,417 MW and the entire deficit could have been met had AP shared power properly and the previous combined AP government booked 2,000 MW available power in the southern grid. In a bid to save standing crops the Telangana government was purchasing 14 Million Units (MU) energy from national power exchange everyday at an exorbitant rate of Rs. 8 to 9 per unit and had also announced two power holidays every week to the industrial sector, Mr. Harish Rao noted. He ridiculed Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders’ allegation that Telangana government had not asked the Centre power from central generating stations and said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had written three letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others since September 6. CPI (M)’s demand Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the government take immediate measures to resolve the present power crisis, which is causing misery to farmers. Farmers from across the State are setting their crops on fire and conducting demonstrations protesting power cuts, which is cause for concern, a press release from the party’s Telangana unit said on Tuesday. Power holidays for industries will affect production and employment adversely, the note from the State secretary T. Veerabhadram said. The party demanded contingency plan for Rabi, and capacitors to be fixed for pump-sets, and compensation for farmers who endured losses.
