I had jury duty a few years ago. It only paid $10 per day, but I'm in Oregon.

You go to the courthouse, go through the metal detector, line up at the jury room, and then basically sit there all day. You could be called for a civil case, misdemeanor criminal case, felony criminal case, grand jury service, or not at all. You could be called several times and rejected each time. Attorneys question you, if you get called, as a way of deciding whether or not they want you on the jury.

The best case scenario is that you get through the day without being selected for any juries. Then you don't have to come back.

If you're selected for a jury, you have to show up every day until the case is decided. They don't "sequester" you in a hotel unless it's an unusual case that keeps you there late at night. You just go home every day.

I think you do get free lunches if you're on a jury.

Jury duty is important because if everyone dodged it, judges would be deciding cases by themselves. It's more fair to have a group of people who all have to agree.

In some places, individuals are called after being randomly called from a roster of registered voters. In other places, individuals may be called more frequently based on other factors. Owning land or having a drivers license, for example, may increased the frequency at which an individual is called to serve on a jury.

its compulsory to attend...just like in israel its mandatory to serve in the military atleast once....
