donganaaK Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 i know you like to make fun of my judgements :P but believe me when I say that unless you are extensive experience in running a business, investing in early startups is huge NO. Ofcourse if you are a multi millionaire, you can test waters a bit there I guess. yeah i know bro , startups have a success rate of less than 3% , its a very risky process .... but if you know some one working in the reputed VC funds , you can atleast take their advice and do ur own research .. i'm not saying that every VC knows what he's doing , most of the ppl in the business today just got lucky by investing in a lot of them ... but i'm just planning to look in to it , dont really wanna jump in and burn my hands..
donganaaK Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 hmmm.. what sector? technology mainy but he's saying that mobile health startups ki kuda next 1-2yrs lo baaga growth untadi ani
donganaaK Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 oh! nice. how are his returns? cool, he's trying to diversify vertically into early stage. smart plan, if it doesn't hurt his vc numbers. guys working in venture funds are so blessed. They get to invest other people's money, and the commission is princely. I should have done MBA, damn! i dint ask the exact numbers but i guess its pretty nice ... the venture fund had done pretty well last year and had seen a few good exits ..

I run an incubator myself. have about 8 companies there now, near cambridge, UK. completely funded by me. simple math: if its a hardware startup.. need atleast 350-750k pounds to a valuation of 10m software startups requirements are much lower. but I don't do software.

donganaaK Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 smart positioning man. yeah .... I'll go talk to him personally and see how far its viable..

chandra916 Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 what kind of incubation you do how did you get into this premature babies ? cell cultures ? microbiology related ? startups ki oka platform isthaaru daanini incubators antaaru ikkada context lo
gargicau Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 dont mind me asking ... incubators usually take a certain equity out of the startups right , how much equity do u usually take from each one ? i guess 10-15% is ideal if im not wrong. my entire business model is around the insanely high equity I take, because I own some manufacturing and design facilities that help with prototyping and minimum product for launch, along with first batch of products. but generally, 6-8% is ideal if the team is good what others take for introduction to VCs. also hardware incubators take around 15% if the product is complicated. I take more than that.
gargicau Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 Hardware startup ante what are all it includes?? nanotech, MEMS, and one software company.
gargicau Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 what kind of incubation you do how did you get into this premature babies ? cell cultures ? microbiology related ? no man. nanotech. okay I know there are lots medical nanotech companies, but I'm not doing it.
missionxp Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 startups ki oka platform isthaaru daanini incubators antaaru ikkada context lo ohh ... @ gargicau .. am from UK too.. am interested to know about how you started this business .. if possible consider myself as a layman and exp pls if any business Ideas let me knw.. property development ki shift avvalani undhi naku .. and I have a decent budget too to develop in midlands for my budget..
donganaaK Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 my entire business model is around the insanely high equity I take, because I own some manufacturing and design facilities that help with prototyping and minimum product for launch, along with first batch of products. but generally, 6-8% is ideal if the team is what others take for introduction to VCs. interesting .. So does it involve heavy CNC machining ? if yes, i think its a very cost intensive process right.... So , whats ur target actually ? is it to build a product around an idea and develop it and exit at the right stage ? or do u hold on to ur company long enough so that you can eventually go for an IPO ? I'm really curious bro , let me know if its not an issue..
