The industries in Telangana using piped natural gas (PNG) as fuel are facing a production crisis.Recently, the Bhagyanagar Gas Company Limited (BGL), a joint venture of GAIL and HPCL, stopped supply of piped gas to industries located in Medchal, Kompally and Shamirpet areas citing shortage. The industries were utilizing 15,000 standard cubic metres (SCM) on an average each day. Some of them are forced to purchase LPG commercial cylinders in the open market and others are getting LPG tankers and stocking the fuel. As many people are employed in these industries, the State and Central governments have to initiate steps to resume supply of gas to industries.
