Man Arrested With Rs 10 Lakh In Cash 'to Pay Labourers At Raga's Rally

The Maharashtra Police seized Rs 10 lakh that was allegedly headed for Rahul Gandhi's rally at Ramtek on Saturday evening. 

According to the police, the cash was found in a car in the Sangamner area of Nagpur during a routine patrol. 

The driver of the car allegedly did not stop at the police bandobast and tried to flee. The car was chased down by the patrolling vehicles and searched.

The driver of the car, who identified himself as Mohammad Aleem, said the money was meant to be paid for labourers erecting the stage and preparing the rally ground at Ramtek for Rahul Gandhi's rally on Sunday. 

As per the Election Commission guidelines, payments to contractors for campaign rallies have to be made by cheque.

With no documentations and prior approval, the seizure of cash will result in the filing of an FIR. It remains to be seen if Rahul Gandhi or the Congress candidates from Nagpur, for whom the rally was organised, are held accountable. 

In another development, Rahul Gandhi accused PM Narendra Modi of not following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabbhai Patel, though he is seen worshipping the two icons.

Addressing his rally at Ramtek in Maharashtra, Gandhi said that PM Modi was seen bowing before the statue of Mahatma but talks about building a tall statute of Sardar Patel.

"His actions do not conform with the principles of these two leaders,” said Gandhi. 

He said that though Maharashtra was ahead of Gujarat in all parameters due to the efforts of the people, Modi was trying to mislead them by claiming that nothing happened in the last 60 years.
