StuartBinny Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Naidu, Expert in Disaster Management October 13th, 2014, 08:40 AM IST The Andhra Pradesh government deserves all accolades for its timely intervention and action against cyclonic storm Hudhud. Although the damage caused due to the Hudhud is severe for crops, communication system, failing of Radar and electricity, what's the one point that stuns whole nation and whole world (especially countries like America) is the minimal loss of "human lives". Despite the winds battered Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts with a speed of 205 Kmph. Yet, with all due respect, only three lives have been lost. Super thanks to CM Chandra Babu Naidu and his master skills in disaster management. The manner in which Naidu tackled the whole natural calamity is drawing attention globally. However, this is not first-time, Naidu achieved this rare feat. Back in October 1999, a cyclone, was due to hit Machilipatnam, but it suddenly turned its fury towards Orissa and devastated Cuttak, Puri and other districts. Naidu then swiftly acted and sent AP government's relief teams. Naidus' rescue team This team included an expert road-clearing unit, a group of electricians and a team of 50 doctors and 400 paramedics. By the time, Orissa governmet acted, Naidu has revived the normal situation. This made Naidu more popular in Orissa than their then CM Gamang. Back then media widely reported that if Naidu contested from Orissa, he would win with a landslide victory. With Hudhud in 2014, Naidu once again proved his mettle and knack over tackling calamities. Kudos to Chandra Babu Naidu for his visionary and timely governance which saved thousands of lives in Coastal regions http://www.gulte.com/news/31640/Naidu-Expert-in-Disaster-Management 1
StuartBinny Posted October 13, 2014 Author Report Posted October 13, 2014 How Naidu’s govt minimized life loss in Hudhud? It was a little village in West Godavari on Friday night. A VRO was sleeping for more than 2 hours but was awake by a phone call. It was from the Chief Minister’s Office. ‘Make sure the low lying villages are evacuated. You will be responsible for every life lost’ message conveyed in a stern voice. The VRO got out in to the village and almost was pleading or hurrying them up to move to the nearest relief camps (mostly government schools). This is the similar scenario in almost all the districts from Srikakulam to West Godavari. Naidu who was known as the best man in disaster management almost kept all the government employees on toes and made sure the life loss is bare minimum. There were criticisms that Naidu was sitting in Hyderabad comfortably, but there is a rational reasoning as well. “Hyderabad currently has a good network of communication to all the places in the state. It is impossible to setup the network in Vishakapatnam on war footing. Also presence of the Chief Minister will divert the attention of the officials from the relief work. So, CM chose to remain in Hyderabad till the cyclone crossed the coast”, said a source in CMO. Roads were closed and power was cut down by the government in several places so as to make sure people do not come out of their houses and risk their lives. The lives lost so far are of the people who neglected government’s warnings and came out. The people affected in the cyclone as well has some very good words to say about Naidu’s disaster management. “Cyclones are common in this part of the world. But we have more life loss even for smaller cyclones than Hudhud. The way the government handled the relief works made the difference”, says every commoner of the affected region. Now the onus is on the restoration and rehabilitation work.
