No ,you are wrong.That is completetly forgiving or reduucing sentence..which is decided by the court after certain period of time..if the convicted applies for it (like old age,chronuc diseases ,good conduct etc)
Parole is given to every one who is eligible..it has a limit on days and nomber of times it can be used .The time spent on parole are considered to be serving sentence

Just like'advance parole' in GC processing..even thoug your are out of country technically ..you are still considered to be present in the country !
