The Telangana government has demanded the Andhra Pradesh government to release Rs. 40 crore immediately as a pre-condition for impounding 20 tmcft water in Pulichintala project. The project on river Krishna is located in Nalgonda district of Telangana but will benefit Andhra Pradesh as a lower riparian State.

 

The demand of Telangana was expressed by its Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao at a joint meeting of irrigation officials from both States here on Sunday. Mr.Harish Rao spoke to Mr. Uma Maheswara Rao over phone from the meeting.

 

The meeting estimated a total of Rs. 130 crore as payable by Andhra Pradesh for rehabilitation and resettlement of population of 13 villages that are submerged under the project. The Telangana government has asked AP to release Rs. 40 crore immediately to meet the repeated requests of the latter to increase the storage in the project from the present 9 tmcft to 20 tmcft.

 

 

Mr. Harish Rao explained that the Telangana government did not have objection to store 20 tmcft as it did not want the water to drain off wastefully into the sea but the money must be paid by Andhra Pradesh. He also said Mr. Uma Maheswara Rao agreed to release Rs. 40 crore. :police:  :police:
