Naidu rides into town hunting big tech game

It was Naidu 2.0 all the way on Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is largely credited with the coinage Cyberabad for Hyderabad in his earlier 1995-2004 stint, is back in the city wooing the IT giants. The only difference this time around is that he is no more interested, for obvious reasons, in Hyderabad, and instead offering "world class infrastructure" at cities that were closer to Bangalore.

During his roadshow-cum-interactive meet on Wednesday, he rolled out the red carpet to industries at smaller cities like Hindupur, Anantpur, Chittoor, Tirupati and Vizag. This was waiting to happen, and Bangalore Mirror was the first to give heads up on it in an analytical piece in its issue dated May 17, the day after he won the elections.
Interestingly, except Vizag, all these cities are in closer proximity to Bengaluru with excellent road and rail connectivity. For example, Hindupur is at a distance of 95 km, Anantpur-200 km, Chittoor-160 km, and Tirupati-250 km from Bengaluru. Making his pitch towards Hindupur (which is incidentally represented by his brother-in law N Balakrishna), he said his government had around 10,000 acres of land there and it was very near to Kempegowda International Airport and a couple of hours drive.
His focus on city's entrepreneurs was such that he chose Bengaluru to be his first destination for the roadshow much ahead of Singapore, Japan and USA etc. He was here to market his newborn state.
"My focus is on creating land banks at Chittoor, Anantpur, Hindupur, Tirupati and Vizag with mega projects at Chittoor and Tirupati. We will have a single window clearance which will be done in flat 30 to 45 days. We will offer land at select places approximately at Rs 2 crore per acre. The land offered by us will definitely be at competitive and cheaper price than other states and cities,'' Naidu said, recalling how when everyone was talking about Bangalore as the IT and high-tech city, he had converted Andhra Pradesh as an entrepreneurial state.
He said, "At that time, many people asked me if I was competing with SM Krishna. My reply was we were cooperating along with competing.'' A hardsell from Naidu included his government's ''excellent'' equation with the Centre.
When Naidu was asked about the land issue plaguing Infosys for setting up another campus near Devanahalli, he said, "Not just Infosys, I am open to all the companies including start-ups to set up their base in my state." Speaking about the business-friendly environment in his state, he talked about engaging international consultants to get more businesses. His government had already showed interest in getting Hero Motor Corp's manufacturing plant after Karnataka lost the race.
However, some of the entrepreneurs including a woman who were present expressed their concerns over problems they were facing even after getting clearance from the AP government. The CM assured that he will look into the matter.
