Heritage milk being supplied to Kerala from Tamil Nadu was being adulterated at that source. In the tests conducted in government labs, formalin or formaldehyde, the chemical used as a bactericide was found in excess of permissible limits. The milk was being supplied from Heritage Foods (India) Limited, of Dundigal in Tamilnadu under the brand name of “Heritage Padmanabha”. The chemical was found in all the three varieties - pasteurized, homogenized and standardized milk – being supplied to Kerala. Authorities of Kerala also wrote to the Tamilnadu Food Safety Commissioner to check the plants of Heritage company and take suitable action.
