Vijayawada: The textbooks and curriculum in the government schools are about to change in Andhra Pradesh.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is planning to review the language books and Social Sciences from Class III to VIII.

It is mandatory for the government to see that the curriculum meets certain guidelines stipulated by the NCERT and other academic bodies.

The languages should contain 60 per cent of the local content, and 40 per cent of the non-local content. In the non-local content, it is allowed 20-25 per cent content of neighbouring states, while the remaining 15-20 per cent is reserved for issues related to national importance.

Post bifurcation, the Telangana government had formed a revision committee to make changes in the curriculum to give wider preference to local authors, culture and history.

T.V.S. Rambabu, coordinator for textbooks and curriculum, SCERT said, “The official error-finding committee will check the issues and make recommendations for editing the text books. As of now, we have identified several issues to put before the committee.”

P. Neelakanthayya, a resource person for SCERT said, “The proposals are being ready for submission before the committee.

But, the government has not  formed the committee yet. In the meantime, we are expecting a meeting to be scheduled this week with district-wise teachers and academics to review the proposals.
