11/19/2014: "Tension" Rises as 11/21/2014 Friday Approaches in Two Days

  • As we predicted two days ago, the White House is keeping a tight iron door to the closet where the final touch of the forthcoming immmigration executive actions is taking place both for the timeline of release and content and extent of reforms. Tension is rising not only because we are approaching November 21, the leaked timeline for the release from the White House sources earlier, but also the ongoing behavior of the White House and the involved executives of his Administration. Report indicates that they have started actively contacting immigration advocates with two visible messages, among others: Firstly, the content and extent of the reform in the executive actions would be somewhat limited because of the President limited executive power under the Constitution of the United States. This message is apparently to lower the expections and control potential disappointment with the extent of the reform. Second message is to prepare the immigration advocates to defend his executive actions using the precedent of immigration executive actions by the Republican presidents (Reagan and Senior Bush) providing immigration relief for undocumented immigrants and at the time and since then, the country and political leaders have accepted, without political and legal challenges, President's constitutional authority for such executive actions without legislation. The same messages have been released to the media to prepare the nation for the forthcoming actions.
  • It is apparent that the content and extent as well as timeline of release have been internally determined but they still want to have a room for adjustment with the contents and timeline depending on the developments. We still need a patience. Yesterday's failure of passage of the Keystone Pipeline legislative bill of the Republicans and the GOP's agenda to bring back the bill on the Republican House and the Republican Senate floors could potentially change the political dynamics surrounding the legislative bill and the Obama immigration executive actions since both of them will need the Obama's pen. Let's keep a close eye on the developments in Washington for a next few days.
