Ap Customs Commission Headquarters Opened At Vijayawada

Adding a feather to its cap, the city has recently become the headquarters for a Customs Preventive Commissionerate which has been designated to carry out customs related activities like import and export trade effectively in the State. Barring Visakhapatnam wing, all the 12 districts in the State will come under the limits of new Commissionerate with Vijayawada as headquarters, officials said.

According to them, Kakinada and Krishnapatnam Ports that were hitherto in the limits of the Visakhapatnam-II and Guntur Commissionerates respectively will now come under the jurisdiction of Vijayawada Commissionerate. “New ports or any airport coming up in the State will also come under our limits,” said a senior official wishing anonymity. Plans have been chalked out to form customs preventive divisions all along the coastal line to take care of patrolling in coordination with the marine police. This apart, there will be a new audit Commissionerate in Visakhapatnam for taking up auditing work covering all the districts in the State. Guntur Central Excise and Service Tax Commissioner C.P. Rao will be the in-charge Commissioner for the new Commissionerate in Vijayawada.

The official said the revenue that was generated from the erstwhile Vijayawada division was Rs.700 crore in the last financial year through central excise and service tax. “We are hopeful of getting more revenue through service tax collections from this year onwards owing to flurry of activity post bifurcation,” he said.

In coordination with the State government, the department is identifying proper locations to house the Commissionerate.
