Gajji_maraja Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 The second unit (800 MW) at the Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Plant, located near Krishnapatnam here, is expected to be synchronised with the grid by the end of November. Officials say all the works of the second unit pertaining to the construction and generation have been completed satisfactorily and the tests are under progress to prepare the unit for commercial operation. As regards the first unit (800 MW) at this power plant, repairs to steam blowing equipment have been completed and the trial runs are under progress. The unit is expected to go for commercial generation in a day or two. On the issue of allegations by Telangana leaders, the officials here assert that the question of deliberately delaying generation at the Krishnapatnam power plant does not arise in the light of the fact that Andhra Pradesh itself needs power at this juncture. “When the State is purchasing power from outside at a higher cost, nobody will opt for halting generation at any plant now. We are expecting first unit to generate power in a day or two,” said an official. The 2x800 MW Krishnapatnam thermal plant at Nelatur was started with funds provided by the four distribution companies of the Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (SPDCL), Central Power Distribution Company Ltd (CPDCL), Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd (NPDCL) and Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (EPDCL). Based on this ground, the Telangana government and leaders there are insisting on their state’s share of 50.2 per cent from these two units. As the power was not available from here recently, they started criticising the AP government for what they described as the deliberate act of avoiding generation to cause harm to their state’s interests. The officials, however, claim it will take time for starting commercial generation at any unit till it overcomes all troubles and gets stabilised. Trial runs will be continued till the unit achieves full load without any technical problems.
