Few decades back,many people used to come from India (punjabis and gujjus) to US legally and illegally and use to apply for GC on refugee status.At that time there was no figure printing ..Most people used to hide/destroy thier passports.US govt could not deport back as Indain Govt would not take thoes people stating that they don't belong to India ....the people ,with the help of the lawyers used get GC easiy with the loop holes..later USCIS plugged these ad many loopholes by introducing fingure printing while issueing visas and also verifying them at PoE

BTW ,USCIS is planning to collect upto $5000 for GC fee and also back taxes .US govt plan to give work permits for two years for documented and not GCs directly

your right..illegals are not getting GCs..they will get some kind of work permit for few years..by that time they will be in family GC line...

LOL..in those days ,I know a person who cam to US and applied for refgee status..his claim was if he goes back to India,he will be killed by Naxalites and he got GC in a year[ He was a landlord from TG and showed all paper clippings of how his house got blasted by naxals and the death threats /warnings from naxlas and he even produced a fake threat latter]

In the 80's and 90's everything was managed by lawyers in collision with immig judges and 99% cases used to succesful !
