EAD is just for authorizing work.. you can work on EAD without H1B, but once GC is denied, you are out of status from the date H1b last expired. so its always better to maintain H1b status even if you have EAD

i agree with that statement... leaving country on AP is as risky as entering country when you are on opt that expires in 3 months... always remember till you have your GC being let into USA is at the will of Border agent and can/will deny at his discretion. its only a privilege not a right ....so keep your H1B
