❝ I was travelling from Lucknow to Dehradun with my daughter and had reached Harrawala which is very near to Dun. I noticed that my mobile had switched off and went to the next compartment for putting it on charge since the outlet in our compartment did not work. My daughter had fever the previous night and she was all fuzzy in the morning and so I left the mobile on charge and went back to her.

Meanwhile the people started to take out their luggages as we were nearing Dehradun and amidst all the ruckus I totally forgot my phone was on charge! We reached Dehradun, and within ten minutes got off the train and my mobile was inside the train! Still on charge! We came out of the station, got into a tempo and started towards Rajpur. Roughly 45 minutes had passed when I came to the shocking realization that I did not have my phone. I borrowed a phone from a boy sitting next to me on the tempo and started making frantic calls on my number. I called three times and it just kept on ringing and the fourth time it said the phone is out of coverage area. I totally gave up hope thinking whoever got my phone would have removed the sim card. I called again and it rang this time. Since nobody was picking up the call, I thought nobody would have noticed the phone on charge. I called the police and informed about my phone and they assured me help from the GRPF provided if I would come back to the station immediately.

Right then, I received a call from an unknown number and thinking it might be for the boy, I gave the mobile back to him. He said it was a wrong number and disconnected the phone. I took back the phone from him and made some more calls on my number. Then the same unknown number called back once again and this time I picked up the phone. The caller was Mr. Nandram, attendant on Janta Express 3AC. He called to say that he couldn't know how to pick up my call as it was a smart phone. He said that he will be there until evening and that he had my mobile with him and I did not have to worry at all about my phone's safety. I had a faint hope of getting back my phone and I did get it back, thanks to the truthfulness and honesty of one man.

I admire this man for showing me that day the essence and beauty of an honest person. Despite all the corruptions of mind and all the treacherous activities in our society...the light will still shine...because there are hundreds and thousands of people like Mr. Nandram who are faithful in little things and are the inspirations to many more who will come after them. ❞
