S’Pore Partners A P To Develop New Capital City

SINGAPORE — The Republic has further strengthened its bilateral ties with India today (Dec 8) with a partnership to masterplan and develop Andhra Pradesh's new capital city and surrounding region.

Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding, together with Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu this afternoon in Hyderabad. Both Mr Iswaran and Mr Naidu also participated in the subsequent joint press conference from both parties.

 

Both parties agreed to jointly implement the masterplan through a “seed development”. Singapore also agreed to conduct courses and workshops in urban governance for selected Andhra Pradesh officials.

“This is a significant partnership and a key component of Singapore’s engagement with India, both from the political and business perspective. The project is an excellent platform to showcase Singapore’s expertise in urban development and city planning, and at the same time, open up business opportunities for Singapore companies with key capabilities in areas such as urban solutions and infrastructure development,” the Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) said.

“This collaboration will further strengthen and deepen our relationship. Next year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations,” the MTI said.
